Dirty Sugar Cookies cover

From my lips, to your hips!

You can order my most recent book, Dirty Sugar Cookies: Culinary Observations, Questionable Taste (published in May, 2006), from Powells.com just by clicking on the book cover over there to the right.

Itching for a taste? Visit the Hall of Dirty Sugar Cookies for a whole spread of excerpts, review quotes, whipped cream and other delights.

Here's some loving from the back cover:

How does a picky eater morph into a low-budget epicure whose digestive indiscretions are a matter of public record? Just how far can a pregnant woman stray from the Best Odds Diet until a food-borne bacterial infection lands her in the hospital? Can a serial monogamist really keep track of every post-coital breakfast she's ever enjoyed?

An omnivorous, rollicking chronicle of culinary awakening, Dirty Sugar Cookies is an oil-splattered, accidentally-dropped-on-the-floor, self-mocking love letter to everything Ayun Halliday has ever eaten — and a few of the things she wishes she hadn't.

"Ayun infuses her stories with all the elements of a great meal. She can be sweet, sour, hot, and salty, all while being funny and real."
Beth Lisick, author of Everybody into the Pool

"Finally, food stories for the rest of us! For those of us who fondly remember our most demented culinary experiences — the crazy Betty Crocker concoctions we made as kids; the creepy diners we loved; that Moosewood Cookbook phase we went through
in college — Ayun Halliday is our dirty sugar mama!"
Wendy McClure author of I'm Not the New Me and The Amazing Mackerel Pudding Plan

"Dirty Sugar Cookies is a smart, irreverent, and hilarious look at life, love, motherhood, and all the living that goes on around the meals we eat."
Samantha Gillison, author of The Kind of America and the food blog "Lunch for Two"

Ayun is so hot the snow is afraid of her!

Author! Author! Just because I can't afford Botox doesn't mean I wasn't psyched to thwart time's most recent ravages by recycling the red lipstick author photo Delta and Aeric shot way back when Job Hopper was scheduled for take-off. But I changed my mind when the New York Times Style section declared leopard print all the rage, shortly after Delta snapped me all a-frolic in the blizzard of aught-six.

So what else is there to do around here?

So glad you asked. Thanks to the miracle of technology, you can:

  • Taste my food for me. So what if I've already eaten it? A veritable cornucopia of recipes awaits you on the Dirty Sugar Cookies blog!

  • Buy a T-shirt. Shirts and other fun swag available in East Village Inky and No Touch Monkey! designs. Now you don't have to do the laundry today.

  • Sneak a peek into the pages of and even subscribe to my zine, The East Village Inky, without licking a single melonfarming stamp!

  • Stick it to the man! If I only had a nickel for every crappy day job I had, I'd have nearly as much as you'll make if you start thumbing through Job Hopper on company time.

  • Touch the monkey if you must. I believe I explicitly advised otherwise in No Touch Monkey! but perhaps you haven't read it yet. That seems a situation in need of rectification.

  • Read a chapter of The Big Rumpus before your rush out to buy several copies for your mom, yourself, your uncircumcised colleague, that neighbor kid with three thumbs... If you need convincing, see what the critics have had to say before you place your order online (in the sad event that there's no independent bookseller where you live).

  • Enroll in the top-secret mailing list to receive classified emails about my highly irregular movements (no, not that kind!)

  • Judge for your ownself whether my drawings resemble their real life counterparts in the kissable Photo Super Spectacular!

  • Suffer through the short version of how I got to be this way in my online autobiography. (The long version is The Big Rumpus. Buy it! Buy it now!)

  • Spout off in the Guestbook! Here's where you read it. Here's where you sign it.

  • Dish up a plate of Inky's linkies!

  • Toss out your old guidebook! If you're visiting NYC with or without the young of the species, let me tell you where to go!

  • Avoid the mess in your kitchen sink by poking through the odds and ends in mine.

  • Browse through the books and zines available in my own little book store.

  • Write to me without having to soil your tongue on the flap of a dirty, germ-filled envelope. (Unless you want to.)
